Otterburn

Otterburn Mill at Otterburn is a great day out whatever the weather.  Situated in picturesque rural Otterburn in the heart of Wild Redesdale Otterburn Mill offers stress free shopping with free parking, a large home bake coffee shop and a tourist information centre.

The shop is housed in the original mill buildings alongside archive materials, tools and machinery once associated with a thriving local weaving industry.

As part of the mill property we have a 25 acre field where you can walk and picnic.  Through this field flows a mile of the River Rede which is well known for good trout fishing and later in the year salmon fishing.  You are welcome to fish here; we ask that you book though the Tourist Information Centre.  All permit fees are donated to the Great North Air Ambulance Appeal.

The Otterburn Village Trail, one of Northumberland National Park Rangers’ favourite walks, starts and finishes from the car park at Otterburn Mill.

A 2.5mile (4km) self-guided moderate grade walk, which will take approximately 2 hours. The terrain is a combination of road and grassy paths - these can become muddy, with some slight inclines and several stiles.  Along the route you might be fortunate enough to see otters, these secretive creatures can be difficult to spot, but their footprints might be visible along the muddy banks. Several species of birds, including herons and curlews can be seen along the Otterburn Village Trail and in the summer you’ll see a diverse range of flowers.

Finish your walk with a drink and something to eat in Weavers, coffee shop and restaurant.

In May 2008 we opened our shop in the small market town of Rothbury in Northumberland.  Otterburn Mill at Rothbury is situated on Rothbury High Street and sells a diverse range of products including high quality men’s and ladies clothing, outdoor clothing, woollen goods and gifts.

Lakeside

In April 2010 we opened our third shop, Otterburn Mill at Lakeside.  Situated with the Lakeside Country Café close to Ellerton Lake, Scorton.  The large mezzanine floor is home to a wide selection of outdoor and leisure clothing for all the family.  Downstairs you will find high quality men’s and ladies clothing, woollen goods and gifts.  Parking at Lakeside is free.

Lakeside Country Café offers a wide selection of mouth watering sandwiches, quiches, filled jacket potatoes, salads, soups, cakes, pies and desserts as well as daily specials and a selection of roast meats for Sunday lunch. All the meals served are made from scratch with fresh local produce in their country kitchen.  The café looks out onto the well-equipped children’s play area with an expanse of farmland behind.
